Amma says that the purpose of her ashrams or centres is to provide a "place where people can devote all their time and energy to the remembrance of God, doing selfless service and developing qualities such as love, patience and respect for others".Amma's first spiritual center was establisted in Amritapuri, Kerala on May 6, 1981. Today, satsang groups spread across 33 countries worldwide, including the Europe, United States, Canada, Middle East, Asia, Australia and Africa.
