A heartfelt ‘Thank You’ to all who joined the sponsored climb of Croagh Patrick earlier this year, with a special mention to our youngest climber – Ralph Solan, aged 8!. Thirty people from around the country participated with immense goodwill and enthusiasm, making this event one of the highlights of the year’s fundraising activities. In fact, the climb was such a success that we plan to make the sponsored Croagh Patrick climb on the May Bank Holiday weekend an annual Amma Ireland fundraising event from now on.
As one participant said ‘I felt a great sense of achievement when I reached the top along with the others and I couldnt stop singing. I was so happy with myself I literally ran down the mountain. It was a beautiful sunny day and we had breathtaking views of Clew Bay on ascending and also when we reached the top. I’m looking forward to climbing again next year.’
Croagh Patrick, near Westport, Co. Mayo has long been a sacred mountain and a place of pilgrimage for Irish people. Many of us have at some time joined the traditional pilgrimage which takes place each year in July, with Mass being celebrated on the mountain summit.
More and more people are discovering the joy and satisfaction of taking part in fundraising activities. Dinner parties, pamper days, car boot sales, a race night, a raffle, a golf outing and women’s marathons were some of the events organised this year by many people around Ireland to help fund Amma’s Visit to Ireland and her vast range of humanitarian initiatives.
